What to expect in 2022

Well, in reality, who knows? When it comes to the world at large . . . I got nothin’. The only sage advice I can offer in my 32 years on this planet is don’t panic. Sometimes, it really is as simple as that. Whatever hardships may come your way in 2022, just remember that cooler heads always prevail.

But let’s, for a few moments, step away from the problems of the world and talk about some fun stuff. If you’re reading this, I have to assume you are either a fan of my work or love to read. Either way, I’m glad you’re here and I’m excited to share with you my plans to make 2022 the most exciting year yet.

Just a few months ago, I released the first part of my superhero trilogy The Night Howler. If you haven’t checked it out yet, I highly recommend it if you’re a fan of antihero stories or the ongoing cultural debate about whether we should be adhering to older ideologies or embrace the new age of thinking. (A touchy subject, yes, but veiled under the guise of people in spandex punching each other in the face.)

In 2022, you can expect the second part to be released. I can already tell you it will be much longer than part one (about 3-4x) and more in depth regarding the main character, Night Howler. To be totally upfront, I never expected to take this story any further than the first part. It was a short story that I had submitted and won some contest. But the idea of an older superhero desperately hanging on to his glory days while also struggling to compete with much younger, influential superheroes, and all the drama that could come with that, was just too intriguing to let go.

Another thing I am very excited to announce for the new year is that I will be publishing a print version of my novella Possum Stew. Even though it’s been out for some time in digital form, I have been getting many requests to release a physical version. So for those waiting, your wishes will finally be fulfilled! In addition, the digital comic short that accompanies the story will also be included in the print version.

Finally, outside of books and other stories, I want to bring you content that feels valuable. Whether that comes in the form of blog posts, interviews, podcasts, or other media, I want to make sure I’m giving you interesting stuff that inspires, intrigues, or perhaps makes you question things in your own life (for the better, of course).

Nobody knows for sure what the new year will bring. Personally, and this is something I have confided in only a few close people, New Years Eve scares the shit out of me. I don’t know what it is. Maybe it’s the nagging guilt of not having achieved enough in the year. Perhaps it’s the collective manifestation of time’s perpetual thrust forward. That “there’s no getting off this train” feeling. Or, maybe I’m just afraid of countdowns. In any case, having all of these goals to look forward to and knowing there are people like you who care enough to come along for the ride or better yet, read the stuff I put out there, definitely lessens that feeling of dread.

So wherever you are right now, stay safe. But always remember to have fun and embrace all the possibilities of life: the good, the bad, and the unpredictable. Thank you for all your support in 2021. I’ll see you in the new year.

Cheers.
